Frequently Asked Questions

Can I call or visit?
We highly discourage visits to camp to visit your camper(s). If you are concerned about your camper(s) please contact the Camp Director via phone or email.

Can they bring phones, ipods, psp’s etc?
No, we ask that campers not bring any electronics. They will be too busy out having fun to even use them!

Can we visit camp before summer to check out the camp?
Yes! We have open houses May 21st and June 3rd at the Pierson Rd. YMCA. If you cannot make one of those dates please set up an appointment for a tour.

Do they have a background check?
Yes, all of our staff are required to have background checks done before they are able to work.

How are groups assigned?
Groups are assigned by the directors at camp. We assign placements based upon age and gender. If you have group-mate requests please make a note of it when you register. If you have any special requests or concerns please contact the director.

How are medical issues taken care of?
Camp Boomerang has an onsite health officer that treats medical issues. They also dispense all camper medications.

Is there financial assistance available?
Yes, you need to fill out a campership application that you can get from this website or by calling: 810-407-2145.

Where do I drop my child off and pick them up?
Camp Boomerang is located at the Pierson Rd facility, but you may also drop campers off at the downtown Flint YMCA and your child will be bused to the camp. Please specify where you would like to drop them off on the registration.

What if my child has special needs?
YMCA Camp Boomerang welcomes campers of all kinds. Please contact the Camp Director to discuss your camper’s specific needs.

What if there is inclement weather?
Camp will continue rain or shine. If there is a serious weather issue, campers will be moved inside to safety.

What if they have a birthday at camp?
Please inform your child’s counselor or Camp Director. We love celebrating birthdays at camp.

What is the camper to counselor ratio?
Camp Boomerang will maintain a ratio of 1:6. These numbers fluctuate slightly throughout the day based upon what program areas your camper(s) are attending.
